Nick Drake and Emily Thurston

The Proposal: Nick proposed to Emily at Fountain Park in Fountain Hills, one of their favorite spots to picnic and just slow down to celebrate life’s little events. When the couple first started dating, Emily traveled to Los Angeles, where Nick was living at the time, to visit. While she was there, they went a gorgeous hike along the beach cliffs in Pacific Palisades and stumbled upon a little bench that overlooked the ocean. After Nick move from Los Angeles, the couple always said they needed to find their own bench spot in Arizona. The day of the proposal, Emily thought Nick was planning a special date for an anniversary, but when they got to the park, there was a bench in the middle of the park just waiting for them. Nick had handcrafted the bench just for Emily, creating their very own special spot. That’s when Nick got down on one knee and proposed.
The Planning:Their engagement spanned 1 year and 10 months, but seemed to fly by incredibly fast. Both Nick and Emily were in the midst of applying for jobs, interviewing at graduate schools, and hoping they would end up in the same city. Although it was stressful at times, they were happy they stuck it out, and in the end, everything was just perfect.
The Big Day: All the couple really wanted was a wedding that was elegant, but simple and relaxed. We wanted great food, lots of wine, fresh flowers, perfect weather, and great company. We got it all!
As Emily walked down the aisle she made it a point to try to look at each and every one of their guests, it was an overwhelming sensation for her to see each person who they loved so dearly in one spot to celebrate them.
During the ceremony, Nick and Emily had privilege of serving communion to all their guests. Typically, the bride and groom take communion for the first time as a married couple in front of the guests. Nick and Emily wanted to include everyone as they felt this marriage was not just about them but the entire body of Christ. The couple cried tears of happiness as guests came up one by one to them to take communion. It was their favorite moment of the wedding.
The reception was just a lovely as the wedding, just as Emily had hoped for. The toasts were particularly special to the couple. Being welcomed into one another’s family and reminiscing on sweet moments throughout their childhood and relationship was really memorable.
Hope you enjoy this lovely wedding as much as we do. XOXO
