Every bride who walks through the doors of Suzanne’s Bridal Boutique is immediately invited into its ohana, says Suzanne Novak, the owner of the boutique. Currently, the popular trend among brides who are shopping for a wedding dress is to cram the experience into a full day event. Brides and their entourages will often trek from one up-scale boutique to the next and try on dozens of gowns in a single day – only to return home in love with the first dress.

While this experience may be entertaining, jumping from one boutique to the next can often be expensive and confusing, as well as not accomplish the bride’s goal of finding the perfect dress. Most brides become overwhelmed with options and end up not purchasing a dress that day. Additionally, the costs associated with booking a session at multiple bridal boutiques may not be feasible for brides who bring along a large support group.

That’s where Suzanne’s Bridal Boutique comes into play. Novak said that the key to bringing in business in the ever-competitive Arizona bridal industry is to make every woman who walks in the door comfortable with the place she is at. “My goal is for every bride to feel right at home,” said Novak. As a Hawaii-native, Novak stressed the importance of her boutique exuding an ambience of ohana – the Hawaiian word for family – to everyone who enters. “Every bride who comes in here becomes ohana,” said Novak.

Another way in which Novak said her boutique appeals to many brides is the full-service treatment she offers. Full-service refers to not only showcasing a wide selection of bridal gowns to choose from, but also an in-house seamstress who will work with the bride to make any desired alterations. “There’s not many other places in Arizona who are full-service like us,” said Novak. “Years ago, all the bridal boutiques were full-service. Now it’s really rare.” Novak said that she is the main seamstress at her shop and often does not meet the bride until after the she has purchased a gown. For that reason, Novak relies heavily upon her team to give brides and their entourages a proper Suzanne’s experience.

Alex Roberts, the assistant manager at Suzanne’s Bridal Boutique, said she enjoys working with all the brides who come in. “I love being able to work one-on-one with the bride to help her [pick out a dress],” said Roberts. She also noted that shopping at Suzanne’s is meant to be stress-free, regardless of bride’s situation. “Some brides come in knowing exactly what they want, and some don’t. It’s my job to help out both kinds of brides as well as I can.”

When asked which one out of the numerous bridal experiences Novak enjoyed the most, the business owner laughed and said that she didn’t have a favorite. “I can’t pick a favorite bride,” said Novak. “That’s like asking me to pick a favorite child or grandchild – I love them all. They are all my family,” said Novak.
