Before the big day, memorable toasts, and tear-jerking “I dos,” and before all the planning and shopping and dreaming, comes one special moment that will change the couple’s lives forever: the proposal. Sometimes weeks or even months of planning and preparation go into the proposal. Other times, it happens in the right place at the right time. Whether it’s an intimate affair or a family gathering, the proposal prepares the couple and the world for their wedding day. We think there is something so special about that beautiful pre-wedding moment, and we want to share our favorites from this past year with you.
Favorite Proposals of 2017
The couple met each other during the summer of 2009 when they were just 17 years old. A mutual friend was throwing a house party, and both of them showed up at the exact same time. After initially meeting in the driveway, they were inseparable throughout the night and talked the entire time. Dallen drove Mallory home that night, walked her to her door, and asked if he could see her again the next day. This led to them spending the next several days together, and they have been dating ever since.
When Dallen decided it was time to propose, the two of them went to visit Mallory’s family one afternoon. While driving away after a fun visit, Dallen “accidentally took a wrong turn,” and began heading for the house where the two of them had initially met. Even though Mallory began to catch on, it was still a magical moment for the both of them as Dallen parked the car out front of the house, led Mallory up the driveway, and proposed to her in the exact same spot where they had met each other eight years earlier. Through joyous tears, Mallory said yes!
Sheridan and Tyler had a very romantic proposal. Both of their families flew to Rocky Point, Mexico to celebrate Thanksgiving together. For the Thanksgiving feast, the families sat out at delectable-looking tables that were romantically situated along the beach. As the waves crashed along the shore before dinner, every person was handed a champagne glass. One person from each table stood up and toasted for what they were thankful for. It was a sweet, simple gesture of gratitude, and Sheridan had no idea of what was coming next. At her table, Tyler’s father stood up and briefly spoke before allowing Tyler to profess his love and ask Sheridan to marry him! Overcome with shock and joy, Sheridan said yes and was able to have both families there to witness it. Everyone toasted the happy couple and were able to partake in Thanksgiving dinner thankful for the company of each other.
Clinton knew he wanted to propose, but couldn’t pick the right time. The trip he took with Brooke to Costa Rica would have been a perfect place, but the opportunity didn’t present itself. The proposal had to be a surprise, but Clinton also knew that Brooke wanted her family to be there. Yet the perfect idea came when Brooke’s family was building a house down in Tubac, the place where the couple had gone on their first date. Clinton enlisted the help of Brooke’s mom, who asked Brooke to drive down to Tubac with her to drop off some stuff for the house. Clinton’s cousin Delaney drove Clinton down there separately and also stood ready to take photos of the whole proposal. Meanwhile, Clinton stood under a huge cottonwood on the golf course and waited for Brooke. Her mother texted Clinton to let him know that they arrived, and Clinton surprised Brooke by popping out from behind the tree and getting down on one knee. Overcome with joy, Brooke replied “Yes!” through happy tears.
A mutual friend set Carlton and Christina up on a blind date, and the pair immediately hit it off. Both are in the performing arts professions, Carlton as an opera singer and Christina as a ballerina in the Miami City Ballet. During a performance from a one-man show Carlton produced, he brought Christina on-stage for a dance and a serenade. As the song ended, he dropped to one knee and professed his love for Christina! She was so surprised, but immediately said yes!
After meeting in college, Jon and Paige reconnected when Paige moved to Los Angeles after graduation. Fast forward three years of dates and fond memories, Jon knew the time was right to pop the question. Lots of planning went into the proposal, and he surprised Paige in Howard Hughes’ old airplane hangar with an aisle made of paper airplanes. At the end of the aisle, Jon was waiting with a projector that played a video of their entire relationship. Taken aback by the gesture, Paige momentarily blacked out! However, she quickly regained her composure to happily exclaim yes.
